Apprentice - Painter Decorator/ Property Maintenance Operative

Clarendon Laboratory, Parks Road, Oxford,OX1 3PU

We have a fantastic opportunity to join the University of Oxford as an Apprentice Painter and Decorator in the Physics department and play a part in developing a better future for all.

You will have the unique opportunity to work in a department specialising in a very broad range of topics including space exploration, finding cures for human diseases and building one of the world's first functioning quantum computers to name only a few.

You will join a hard-working Building Services team

Building Services supports the department to make sure all infrastructural needs are met.

Our work falls broadly into 3 areas;

1) Maintenance and servicing.

2) Testing and inspection to make sure we are compliant.

3) The rearrangement of space and objects so that the next task can be done in the space dedicated.

The last task can be as simple as removing waste, shifting furniture or as complex as a small Capital works project to reconfigure space: A strip out, reconfigure walls and doors, install new power, lighting and data, process chilled water, new paint, new flooring, and new ceiling etc. The work is varied and never ending.

As an apprentice, you will join the team soon, but the college training is not due to start till August 2024. This gives you a chance to develop skills in and around being a Painter and have you settled at work before the rigors of college start.

You will work as an Apprentice Painter, Decorator. You will be required to complete a 2-year training programme that will cover all aspects of the role and will be delivered through in-house training, as well as day-release by Windsor Forest College Group (formerly East Berkshire College), Langley campus and you will gain Level 2 qualification.

Becoming an Apprentice at the University of Oxford is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience and training. For more information visit:

www. apprenticeships.ox.ac.uk

To complete the level 2 apprenticeship, it is essential that you will be able to evidence GCSE standard (English and Maths grade C or grade 4) or equivalent

Our apprentices are never on their own, you will benefit from a supportive environment working in collaboration with the rest of our Building Services team.

You will also be supported by the central apprenticeship team and you will join our growing network of apprentices within the university. You will have the opportunity to become an apprenticeship ambassador for the University and region.

We will provide you with a welcoming and inclusive workplace, offering support and development opportunities that will enable you to progress and do your best work. We recognise diversity as our strength, vital for innovation and creativity, and we aspire to build a truly diverse community, which values and respects every individual's unique contribution.

Over 80% of our apprentices continue with us in the role they have been trained for after their Apprenticeship and that is just the start of their career.

You will receive 38 days' annual leave inclusive of Bank Holiday and fixed closure dates, discounted travel, an excellent contributory pension scheme, and student discount. You will also be part of the University's annual apprenticeship awards.
