The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences are recruiting for an Apprentice Technician. We are a passionate and vibrant community of staff and students, brought together by a fascination with the living world and a desire to understand and care for human beings.

Healthcare simulation is a fusion of healthcare and technology. Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) is a fast-developing area of adult education with many new technologies which enhance learning platforms as well as new modalities such as Virtual Reality. This apprenticeship will enable you to support quality simulation education experiences which will allow healthcare professionals to enhance their individual and team performance, improving patient safety and patient outcomes.

Working week

Monday to Friday with occasional weekends

Pattern 07:30 -15:30 or 10:30-18:30

What will the apprentice be doing?

As an apprentice, you will be working alongside knowledgeable and experienced technicians and educators who offer courses to healthcare students. It is expected that with training you will gain experience recreating the clinical areas to ensure an immersive and realistic simulation, this would include deploying part task trainers, undertaking the scenario programming and subsequent operation of human patient simulators.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will complete a 24 month programme delivered through in-house training and remote training and coaching delivered by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. You will be paired with a Buddy in your first week and will complete a Simulation Technician Level 3 Education Technician Apprenticeship. You will be eligible to apply for RSciTech on completion. Distance learning, College attendance, and successful completion of these studies is an essential requirement of this Apprenticeship.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Successful completion of this apprenticeship will provide you with a solid foundation for a career in delivering and managing skilled technical support in teaching, learning and research environments. Achievement of the level 3 qualification will also allow the apprentice to gain registration as a RSciTech (Registered Science Technician) with the Science Council.

On successful completion of the 2 year apprenticeship there may be an opportunity to progress your career with Oxford Brookes University. This will be reviewed and discussed with you towards the end of your apprenticeship
