Description of Work Unit
The Department of Design and Merchandising offers B.S. degrees in Apparel and
Merchandising (AM) and in Interior Architecture and Design (IAD), both of
which are nationally accredited programs. In 2019, the AM program became the
‘first-in-the-nation' program to be accredited by the Textile and Apparel
Program Accreditation Commission, and the IAD program has been accredited by
the Council for Interior Design Accreditation since 1990.
The department has 17, tenure and non-tenure-track, faculty as well as
administrative professionals and staff who support approximately 600
undergraduate students and 20 graduate students. The department is housed in
the Nancy Richardson Design Center, which features classrooms, computer labs,
and fabrication labs designed to foster innovative teaching and learning, and
in the neighboring Gifford Building, which features classrooms, computer labs,
construction labs, and textile labs. The department also is home to the Avenir
Museum, a facility with a repository of 25,000 historically and culturally
significant items of dress, textiles, and interior artifacts representing
regional, national, and international cultures. To learn more about the

The Department of Design and Merchandising seeks applications for adjunct
instructor(s) to teach courses in the Apparel and Merchandising program
(9-month position). Actual pay will be prorated based on number of courses
taught but will be based on an annualized $50,000 salary.

Required Job Qualifications
-Bachelor's (B.A. or B.S.) degree in Apparel and Merchandising.
-A minimum of 2-years industry experience in the fashion/apparel industry.
-Experience/expertise with industry software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator and
Photoshop, Excel, Lectra, 3-D CLO, Optitex, PLM)
-Demonstrated commitment to diversity, professionalism, and teamwork.
Preferred Job Qualifications
-Master's (M.A. or M.S.) degree in Apparel and Merchandising.
-Demonstrated success in teaching at college/university level.
