    Project: RAID.Piracy

    A tender is now open for the award of a Research Grant (BIPD) for a doctoral degree within the scope of the project RAID.Piracy - AI for Content Protection, with reference POCI-01-0247-FEDER-046964, through call nº 17/SI/2019 under the Incentive System for Research and Technological Development (SI I&DT), supported by the budget(s) of the program(s): Competitiveness and Internationalization Operational Program (COMPETE 2020), under the Portugal 2020 Partnership Agreement, through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and in accordance with the Specific Regulations of the Competitiveness and Internationalization Domain - Ordinance no. No. 57-A/2015, of February 27 (hereinafter referred to as RECI).

    Scientific Areas: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and similar areas.

    Requirements:

    - The candidate must have a PhD in the areas of Engineering (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or similar areas) and that cumulatively fulfills the following requirements:

    • Holder of a PhD degree obtained in the three years prior to the date of submission of the scholarship application;

    • Have carried out the research work that led to the attribution of a doctoral degree in an entity other than the host unit;

    • Research activities do not require post-doctoral experience;

    • Do not exceed, with the conclusion of the contract in question, including possible renewals, an accumulated period of three years in this type of scholarship, consecutive or interpolated.

    - The candidate must have knowledge and experience in data analysis, image processing and computer vision, sound/audio processing, natural language processing (NLP), machine learning and deep learning approaches including evaluation methodologies, relevant programming languages (C++, Python, Matlab, etc.), development tools, and deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch). The candidate must have knowledge of deep learning based image classifiers, object detectors, image segmentation, trackers, and OCR algorithms. The candidate should have knowledge of the standard NLP stack (segmentation, tokenization, part-of-speech tagging, named-entity recognition) and language models. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of sequence-sequence models applied to NLP and/or audio streams. Knowledge on bidirectional transformers (e.g. BERT), would be also a plus.

    Work plan:

    The RAID.Piracy project is aimed at the creation of an anti-piracy solution based on machine learning and artificial intelligence for mitigating the illegal distribution of audiovisual content.

    The tasks of the fellows are related to coordination and development of object detection, object recognition, object tracking, and OCR (Optical Character Recognition), audio stream processing for audio keyword spotting and speech- to-text, and, subsequently, in natural language processing of the obtained text stream.

    In this project, the fellow will be responsible for coordination and participation in research and creation of concepts and prototypes of algorithms and models for image and video processing, audio/sound processing, natural language processing (NLP/NLU), by applying data science, AI and ML/DL to detect, log and report illegal streams.

    The fellow will also be responsible for coordination and participation in creating proofs-of-concept and datasets for training and testing, training models and evaluating their performance.

    Legislation: Research Fellowship Statute – Decree-Law No. 89/2013, which was later amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of 28 August.     Workplace: The work will be developed at 2Ai of the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave – Barcelos, under the scientific guidance of Professor Doutor José Brito.

    Duration of scholarships: The fellowship will last 12 months, scheduled to start in July 2022. The scholarship contract may be eventually renewable, if the candidate meets the conditions for another 3 months, up to the maximum time limit in which funding for the project is guaranteed, if it is not denounced, in writing, with 60 days prior notice by either part.

    Monthly maintenance allowance amount: Scholarship holders are allocated a monthly maintenance allowance of € 1686,00 under the terms of the table in Annex III of the Research Grants Regulation of the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado e do Ave, according to the update authorized by order of the IPCA President for the year 2022. This amount will be paid monthly via bank transfer.

    Other benefits: Reimbursement of Voluntary Social Insurance, corresponding to the 1st step of the contributory base, and Personal Accident Insurance.

    Applications evaluation:

    Applications will be evaluated taking into account the selection criteria listed below. In case the selected scholarship holder withdraws, the second candidate from the ordered list of candidates will be automatically selected, and so on, until the candidates presented are exhausted.

    Selection methods:

    The selection methods to be used will be the following: Curricular evaluation, with a value of 50% and Selection Interview, with a value of 50%.

    The Curriculum Assessment (AC) is based on the following criteria:

  • Classification obtained in the masters degree – 50%;
  • Scientific and/or professional experience related to the project – 50 %.
  • The Selection Interview (ES) will have a maximum duration of 30 minutes and is based on the following criteria:

  • Motivation and interest in the place – 20 %;
  • Capacity for expression, argumentation and verbal fluency – 20 %;
  • Sense of teamwork – 20 %;
  • Domain of English Language - 10%;
  • Compatibility with the work plan profile – 30 %.
  • In case of a tie, preference will be given to the classification obtained in the AC, if a tie persists, preference will be given to the classification obtained in each of the factors that make up the EPS criterion, in the following order:

  • Compatibility with the work plan profile (30%);
  • Sense of teamwork (20%);
  • Motivation and interest in the place (20%);
  • Capacity for expression, argumentation and verbal fluency (20%);
  • Domain of English Language (10%).
  • Candidates who do not attend the interview, for reasons not legally justified, will be excluded, regardless of the score obtained in the curriculum evaluation, and candidates with a final classification of less than 9.50 points.

  • Stakeholder participation and decision: Candidates will be notified of the assessment results project by email with delivery receipt of the notification, so that they can comment for the purpose of holding a hearing of interested parties, pursuant to article 121 et seq. of the Code of Administrative Procedure, to the email direccaoest@ipca.pt. In the absence of a response from the candidates, the project becomes definitive.

    Decision: Once the prior hearing period has elapsed, or the issues raised within this scope have been considered, the jury draws up the final ranking list of the admitted candidates, submitting it, together with the remaining parts of the procedure, for approval by the IPCA President.

    Form of advertising/notification of results: The results of the evaluation will be publicized, through a list sorted by the final grade obtained, and the candidates will be notified by email, with delivery receipt of the notification, pursuant to article 19, paragraph 1, of the Research Grants Regulation of the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave.

Curriculum Vitae and Certificate of Qualifications must be presented, the non- delivery of which determines the exclusion.

    If the candidate is not a Portuguese citizen, he/she must provide documentary evidence, at the time of signing the grant contract, that he/she holds an authorization to legally remain in Portuguese territory and that entitles him/her to enter into the contract arising from the grant award.

    If the qualification requested has been conferred by a foreign university, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16th August, and any formalities established therein must be fulfilled until the date of the signature of the grant contract.

    Complaint: Complaints from the final ordering list, duly ratified, may be made to the IPCA president, to be submitted within 15 working days from the notification, to the email direccaoest@ipca.pt., which does not have a suspensive effect.
