Project/Unit Description

The Georgia Tech Research Institute in Colorado Springs, CO, is seeking junior engineers and scientists with experience in algorithms and analysis, sensors, command and control systems, missile defense systems, and space situational awareness. Candidates will work from and report to the GTRI field office in Colorado Springs, CO. The types of work that will be performed include the following: Develop artificial intelligence/machine learning algorithms for optimization of missile defense and space surveillance resources. Develop tracking, fusion, sensor management, and command and control algorithms for application in missile defense and space surveillance systems. Analyze modeling and simulation and live test data to quantify performance of missile defense and space surveillance systems.

Job Purpose

Responsible for the development and support of state-of-the-art algorithms involving to data fusion, sensor fusion, machine learning, manned/unmanned avionics improvement programs, and genetic programming. Algorithm engineering focuses on the design, analysis, software/hardware implementation, optimization, profiling and experimental evaluation of computer algorithms, bridging the gap between algorithm theory and practical applications of algorithms in software engineering. Statistical analysis of multi-modal and time-varying data to characterize and quantify system qualities and deficiencies, resulting in recommendations and development of improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform data cleaning and fundamental data analysis using existing tools with guidance.
  • Execute algorithm tests in accordance with direction.
  • Contribute to algorithm design discussions. - Design and/or modify aspects of algorithm design and implementation with oversight.
  • Contribute to technical report execution with oversight.
  • Interface with and learn how to work with disparate engineering teams for technical tasking. Contribute with regular oversight as asked to execution of specific technical and writing objectives in the service of conference presentations and journal publications. Aid in literature searches with direction.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Contribute to and lead research efforts addressing key problems in missile defense, and space surveillance.
  • Provide thought leadership as part of regular interactions with existing MDA and USSF customers and potential sponsors.
  • Contribute to the capture of new MDA and USSF business opportunities.
  • Manage projects and resources to include personnel, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Serve in an independent advisory role to the Government providing subject matter expertise.
  • Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited degree program relevant to this position will be considered.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills demonstrated during academic degree programs.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance
  • Undergraduate or graduate level courses including elements of signal processing, target tracking, data fusion, or radar.
  • Work experience in developing algorithms for radar systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform independent research.
