The NC State College of Education leads the way in North Carolina in preparing professionals, conducting research, and engaging communities to improve educational outcomes for all learners across the state and beyond. The entire college is engaged in a transformative process to become ananti- racist organization. It is composed of three academic departments: Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education; and Teacher Education and Learning Sciences, with approximately 130 faculty members and 90 support and professional staff. The college's 1,800 undergraduate and graduate students study across 50-plus degree programs that deliver highly-engaged and personalized academic experiences that prepare them to lead in the field of education. The college is also home to the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation and the proposed Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research.

The Department of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education emphasizes exemplary teaching, scholarship, and service in the context of a university education. With a primary emphasis on improving schools and society, the Department prepares quality educators for middle, secondary, and post-secondary school science, technology, engineering, mathematics, graphic communications, and informal settings. In addition, the Department offers a Graphic Communication Concentration (non-teaching) and several minors, including Technology, Engineering, and Education licensure track and a Technical Graphic Communications track for industry. The Department also has programs preparing professionals for leadership at the master's and doctoral levels.

The AI Academy is funded by the Department of Labor and is a four-year program with the goal of training 5,000 new people to enter the workforce in artificial intelligence and data science.

Essential Job Duties

The AI Academy Assistant Instructor will serve as lead facilitator for the four workforce development training courses offered by the program. This will include co-planning with NCSU faculty for the training courses, leading delivery of content in workshop sessions, providing individual and group support for building skills, meeting with participants, scoring participant work, meeting with potential participants and interacting with partnering organizations.

Duties include but are not limited to the following.

  • Leading multiple sections of the AIA course workshops;
  • Facilitating small group breakout sessions;
  • Providing support to participants during virtual help sessions;
  • Scoring participant work each week;
  • Providing feedback to participants;
  • Supporting participants with remediation and alternate assignments;
  • Meeting with potential participants;
  • Interacting with partnering organizations;
  • Attending program meetings;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • This will be a position that will require working evenings and Saturdays.

    Minimum Education and Experience

  • Masters degree in computer science with emphasis in artificial intelligence or masters degree in education with emphasis and/or at least 12 hours coursework in computer science.
  • At least one year of experience as a course instructor.
  • Degrees must be received from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Other Required Qualifications

  • Proficient in programming using Python
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in computer science with an emphasis in artificial intelligence
  • Experience as an instructor of computer science coursework at an institution of higher education
  • Required License(s) or Certification(s)
