Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Co-Adjutant Faculty
member for the Collaborative Center for Community-Based Research and Service
to review and revise courses for its Advancing Community Development program.
Funded through Johnson & Johnson, The Advancing Community Development Program
is a six-credit, experiential learning program where students from multiple
disciplines/majors learn about community health outcomes and how they are
influenced by anchor institutions, local government and community
organizations. In the Fall, students are given the opportunity to learn
directly from leaders in the community, government, and health professionals
through its guest speaker component. In the Spring semester, students complete
a capacity-building project for a local non-profit agency guided by mentors
from J&J and nonprofit professionals while building transferable workplace
skills. Currently, students are receiving credits through existing Independent
study and Internship courses taught by part-time lecturers. This position will
be responsible for reviewing current course content and for creating and
submitting two course proposals to the School of Arts and Science (SAS)
curriculum committee with the goal of further institutionalizing this long-
The Collaborative Center for Community-Based Research and Service is a part of
the Division for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement, and works to
foster students' understanding of civic engagement while serving in credit-
bearing internships with local community organizations.
In this role, the Co-Adjutant will:
- Review the current curriculum for the two accompanying courses.
- Advise current instructors on syllabus construction.
- Make recommendations for appropriate readings and course materials to meet
the learning objectives of the program
- Create, submit, and marshal through two course proposals to the SAS course
committee by the end of 2021/22 academic year. This appointment will run until
April 2022 and will report to the Associate Director of the Collaborative

Minimum Education and Experience
PhD and knowledge in health communications, non-profit management,
community development or social sciences.
Strong writing abilities and experience with experiential course design
with a social justice orientation.
Experience working with Rutgers faculty governance for new course
