Position Details
Wesleyan University's Office of Advancement (ADV) builds lifelong relationships with alumni, parents, and friends, and engages them in support of Wesleyan's educational mission and financial goals.
The Advancement team fosters pride in the Wesleyan community and develops support for university initiatives through outreach activities, including development and fundraising, alumni & parent relations, and on- and off-campus events. Wesleyan is currently in the quiet/leadership phase of a comprehensive fundraising campaign, with plans to launch publicly in 2023.
Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations, the Advancement Writer will plan, research and write a variety of communications in support of Wesleyan's ambitious fundraising goals. The Advancement Writer will play a critical role in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of Wesleyan's supporters.
Responsibilities:
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of writing/content writing/copywriting experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Exceptional ability to write; and strong proficiency in English.
Superior editing and grammar skills.
Demonstrated ability to be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment where very simple projects run side-by-side with highly complex projects.
Strong cross-channel writing skills, including the ability to shift voice and tone based on audience and channel
Strong organizational skills, and the ability to juggle multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines
Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail
Intermediate Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of higher education and fundraising
Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop and other Adobe Suite products
