General Description : The Adult Education Instructor, under the direct supervision of the College and Career Readiness Coordinator and the general supervision of the Dean of Adult Education, is responsible for the classroom instruction of high school equivalency (HiSET/GED) or English as a second language (ESL) adult education. The Instructor is responsible for appropriate reporting to Richmond Community College and Morrison Correctional Institution personnel and keeping current with the scheduling of classes and their enrollment requirements. Employment is conditional upon approval by NCDPS.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position :

1. Provide College and Career Readiness instruction in a lecture setting in the college service area (Morrison Correctional.)

2. Assess individual learner's needs, set goals, and prescribe a plan of instructional activities to meet these goals.

3. Develop lesson plans for group instruction using the class profile developed from student assessments.

4. Evaluate and provide feedback on students' progress, record grades, and revise plans as needed.

5. Maintain accurate records, including LEIS paperwork, daily attendance, end-of-semester reconciliation, and other documentation and reports as requested.

6. Meet all deadlines for initial student enrollment, daily inputting of student attendance, end-of-semester reconciliation, and others as assigned.

7. Maintain accuracy and confidentiality of each student's semester audit file. Gather necessary forms and documentation for state/federal mandates.

8. Maintain security of instructional materials, tests, answer keys, and student audit files.

9. Attend required staff professional development training.

10. Be familiar with available teaching materials and use a variety of materials and methods.

11. Provide student recommendations for various testing services.

12. Adhere to Richmond Community College and NCDPS Policies and Procedures.

13. Maintain effective communication between both College and Career Readiness staff and NCDPS educational services.

14. Utilize daily planning periods and curriculum development days effectively.

15. Maintain confidentiality of student information (FERPA).

16. Provide instruction that aligns with NCCCS and WIOA requirements.

17. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Understanding of and commitment to unique nature and role of the College and Career Readiness Program, and the adult learner through knowledge of the methodology of providing individualized instruction. Ability and willingness to teach in a correctional facility. Demonstrated understanding of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act - Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (WIOA - AEFLA) and NCCCS educational plan.

Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Mathematics, English, Social Studies or related field. Prior teaching experience in Adult Education with immured groups preferred. Must possess or obtain a NCCCS CORE Certification or its equivalent within 2 years of employment.
