Job Summary

The Admissions Counselor is responsible for the local recruitment and selection of undergraduate first year and transfer of matriculant students, representing the Tyler School of Art and Architecture and Temple University in a professional, knowledgeable, and responsive manner. Recruitment duties include portfolio reviews, determining recruitment territories and aggressively managing a recruitment territory, including travel to high schools, college fairs, community colleges and portfolio days to do presentations about the Tyler Art and Architecture programs and to meet with students, teachers, parents, and guidance counselors. Other duties include planning and participating in on-campus events; communicating with prospective students in person, by phone, through social media, in writing, and in group presentations; leading special interest groups and high profile guests through Tyler and the enrollment process; evaluating admission applications and responding to appeals from students, parents, guidance counselors; tracking and reviewing through SlideRoom and Temple's CRM; reviewing undergraduate portfolios; serving as the Tyler Art and Architecture Admissions liaison to Temple University when appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned.

COVER LETTER REQUIRED

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree required

A minimum of 1 year of directly related experience in an academic setting in higher education or related field.

A combination of education and experience may be considered.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Must be able to assess, critique, and evaluate portfolios of work in areas relative to Tyler School of Art and Architecture programs.

Must have excellent communication and interpersonal relations skills; ability to work nights and many weekends, must have valid driver's license, insurance and access to automobile for off-campus recruitment travel; must be able to read maps effectively. Also required to use air or rail travel. Knowledge and use of personal computers and database management required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint.

Maintains a positive and objective "customer service" approach and attitude even when confronted with difficult, highly emotional student/parents; advising and counseling situations.

PREFFERED:

Undergraduate or graduate degree in art and design or related field.

This is a hybrid position after a 6mo. introductory period.

This position requires a background check.
