Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position
This position provides administrative support to the PIs, faculty, staff and students working on the STEPs4Growth Grant. (S)he oversees and administers activities of the program's administrative office including support for academic activities, financial compliance, and management; front line reception; communications for the team, office operations; and administrative support to the stakeholders for day-to-day activities. This position serves as the front office specialist for student and department services. Support tracking and communication to the students. This position monitors procedures and systems that provide productive and efficient operations while ensuring the team members follows university and college administrative policies and procedures. This position requires knowledge of program policies, procedures, and information systems in order to communicate and process information. The range of duties include, but is not limited to, verifying data, report writing summarizing and reconciling information of financial data, records management, travel claims review and processing, personnel administration and expenditures.

The Ph.D. in Computational Data Science and Engineering is an interdisciplinary graduate program designed for students who seek to use advanced computational methods to solve problems involving big data, extensive computations, and complex modeling, simulation, optimization and visualization.
The M.S. in Data Science and Engineering is an interdisciplinary graduate program designed for students who seek to use computing and data science and engineering to solve problems involving big data, extensive computations, and complex modeling, simulation, optimization and visualization.
The mission of the Department of Computational Data Science and Engineering is to graduate professionals who (a) have expertise in developing novel computational methodologies and products, and/or (b) have extended their expertise in specific disciplines (in science, technology, engineering, and socioeconomics) with computational tools.
Research in Computational Data Science and Engineering includes: big data and computational statistics, AI and Machine Learning, internet of things, large and complex systems, intelligent transportation and infrastructure systems, remote sensing, autonomous vehicles, virtual and augmented reality, e-commerce, image and video processing, scientific and interactive visualization, high-performance computing, scalable algorithms, bioinformatics, and multi-scale multi-physics engineering systems.

Required Competency CommunicationDuties
Effective communication requires excellent writing and editing skills and verbal communications with students, external stakeholders, faculty and staff. (S)he independently interacts with team members as required to accomplish tasks related to job duties. Maintains detailed calendars and records. Will communicate with vendors and stakeholders on purchasing equipment needed for the program. Other activities include event planning, phone call-visitor-e- mail routing, student forms, and department appearance oversight. Looks for improvement in departmental operations in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. Adapts to changes in the work environment. Other duties as assigned by the PIs and Program Manager on a daily basis.
Required Competency Coordination - OperationsDuties
Provides administrative assistance to the PIs) and Program Manager including program records, purchasing and accounting activities (Aggiemart and Banner Finance), travel claims, student employment support , and program activities. Additionally, perform tasks related to the front office management. Ensure prompt reimbursement for expenditures related to any of these activities. Provides undergraduate student support by working closely with the PIs, Program Manager and Student Support Specialists using Banner student. Maintain, print, and distribute promotional material. Assists with required meetings/conferences directed by the PI and Program Manager. Helps faculty/student in travel processing in Chrome River. Prepare funding requests for reimbursement for tuition at Community College for students outside of NC A&T and prepare financial aid documents for NC A&T students. In addition, the individual will assist students with travel arrangements in Chrome River.
Required Competency Financial ManagementDuties
Managing Business and Work Records Administration – including providing expertise to the PI and Program Manager to manage and organize purchasing requests for equipment, materials, supplies, etc. needed for the program which may include but is not limited to, processing and maintaining paperwork such as purchase orders, requisitions, invoices, obtain required and necessary information from vendors (quotes, W9, etc…) and follow-through with closure details after the purchase. Provides detailed budget information to PIs and Program Manager. Works with team in resolving budget related issues. Needs access to Chrome River and Banner Finance
Required Competency Data/Information/Records ManagementDuties
Assumes major responsibility for providing administrative assistance to the PIs and Program Manager in collecting, analyzing, compiling, and processing records and reports using a variety of computer-based software and tools. Other items in this category include preparation and administrative processing of purchase acquisitions in other forms as necessary in daily operations. Responsible for processing payroll documents for students in a timely and efficient manner. Responsible for managing an efficient filing system for program documentation
