Salary Information Salary commensurate with experience Department Summary

The Department of Mathematics has 22 tenure system faculty, 15 lecturers, about 60 graduate students, and 220 majors. Our graduate degree offerings include a Ph.D. in Mathematics as well as M.A. and M.S. degrees. Undergraduate offerings include B.A. and B.S. degrees in Mathematics, with or without teacher certification. Additional information about the department is available at math.unt.edu.

Position Overview

To administer and supervise the Math Placement and Testing Center in the Department of Mathematics, which provides the student placement and advising service as set forth in the guidelines for the Mathematics academic fee. This includes all activities for student assessment based on placement testing, advising, and evaluating transfer credit.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree and three years of moderately responsible and varied office administration or business management experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Job Duties

o

ADMINISTRATIVE (PLACEMENT & TESTING) Hires, trains, assigns, audits timesheets, and supervises part-time instructional student workers in Math Placement and Testing as needed to perform duties performed on this account. Creates student work schedules each semester for hourly employees in Math Placement and Testing area. Responsible for managing all aspects of student workers in the Placement & Testing Center ensuring students are following policies and procedures. Coordinates testing, advising and placement activities for students enrolling in freshman/sophomore-level mathematics classes each year. Acts as liaison between the department and students, parents, and academic advisors in resolution of any issues resulting from the testing and advising procedure. Attends meetings as necessary for Academic Advisors as scheduled by the College of Science.

ACADEMIC ADVISING SUPPORT Maintains website with course information, i.e. syllabus, course descriptions, prerequisites, and other supporting materials for classroom instruction, etc. Processes course concerns, grade appeals, grade change forms, add/drop forms, and schedule changes and overrides. Acts as a liaison between students enrolled in 1000-2000 level courses and Course Coordinators in handling students' course concerns. Assist instructors in processing grade changes and incompletes. Distributes copies (hard/electronic) of recruiting materials to current and prospective math majors. Distributes copies (hard/electronic) of program and course information packets.

ADVISING (INTERNAL/EXTERNAL) Counsels and advises incoming students on math requirements and prerequisites for those courses as well as for courses contained in their degree requirements. Evaluates transfer credit according to departmental guidelines. Deals with incoming phone requests for advising information, schedule confirmation of courses offered for future semesters, and equivalency data related to transfer credit. Develops and maintains advising media distribution through the website. Navigates the EIS system.

TESTING Supervises administration of placement tests, equivalency tests, subsequent retests, and student progress in successfully completing math course requirement for degree plan. Maintains database of placement testing scores. Exhibits technical competency in administration of on-line testing programs, placement test on Canvas and ALEKS. Plans and administers Math Dept.'s contribution to New Student Orientation (NSO) assessment initiative. Coordinates TAMS testing for prospective TAMS students. Acts as a liaison in meeting needs of TAMS program regarding student placement, enrollment, and special situations concerning TAMS student population. Coordinates Pre- Requisite Verification (PV) initiative following placement testing.

GENERAL OFFICE Uses standard office software (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite) creating reports and generating student information for advising and testing. Develops filing and record retention system for student assessment materials and math majors. Develops and maintains good working relations with other university departments and offices. Develops and maintains a good working relationship with all mathematics department personnel. Acts in an ethical manner and respects confidentiality of documents and information as required by university regulations. Other duties as assigned.

COPIERS/SCANTRONS/PAPER INVENTORY Responsible for copier maintenance for both classroom and staff copiers. Ensures they are fully functional, (paper, toner, staples). Administrative support that includes adding/deleting users and setting copier limits. Orders copy paper and copier supplies for the department.
