The Music Area of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Angelo State University seeks to fill the position of Adjunct of Low Strings (Cello/Bass) for the 2023-24 academic year. This position calls for an individual with a commitment to undergraduate Music Education who will teach applied low strings (cello and double bass), string methods, string orchestra, and other courses as needed in the music curriculum.
Typical Duties/Job Duties
Teach applied lessons in cello and double bass, a weekly studio class, and chamber ensembles as assigned. In the Fall semester the teaching load includes a String Methods class. In the Spring it includes a String Orchestra class, formed by music majors playing mostly secondary instruments. Additional courses may be assigned based upon experience and the needs of the music area.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Qualified candidates must possess strong communication and organizational skills, exhibit skill in musicianship, rehearsal techniques, and effectiveness as a teacher of university level music students, successfully recruit and retain students, work collaboratively and collegially within a university environment, and meet the needs of a diverse student body.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters Degree in Music with focus in Cello or Double Bass. Proven record of teaching both cello and bass students.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate or ABD (with doctorate conferred at time of appointment) in music, with focus in Cello or Double Bass. Experience in teaching String Methods and conducting a string ensemble. Knowledge of the Texas UIL String Orchestra repertoire.
