Position Summary:

The Department of Music is seeking applicants for its adjunct instructor pool. Applicants must be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment. The UAA Department of Music fosters excellence in the preparation of music students for graduate school, teacher training or other careers in music.


100The incumbent will be responsible for preparing lesson plans and teaching one or more courses in a manner consistent with the course content guide. Adjunct faculty are expected to be available for contact with students and hold office hours appropriate for the course(s) being taught.Essential

This is a pooled position and applicants will be reviewed on an as needed basis. Acceptance into the pool does not constitute an offer of employment, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available the following semester. Hiring decisions are made on a semester-by- semester basis according to the needs of that semester's schedule. To be eligible for this position, applicants must be legally authorized for unrestricted employment in the United States. No work visas will be sponsored for this position.     Applicants must be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment. Applicants will be evaluated on the suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, and potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students in a manner consistent with the specific course content guides in the Department of Music.


    Applicants must have experience relevant to teaching the specific course content.


    A faculty member who is the instructor of record in a credit-bearing course at the 100 course level should hold a terminal master's degree (MFA), unless an exception has been approved by the Dean of CAS. Exceptions may be made in other circumstances when prospective faculty have special professional credentials and experience. An example of a candidate with special professional credentials might be an accomplished artist or musician.

    In CAS, faculty teaching upper-division courses or graduate courses should hold a terminal degree in the appropriate discipline.

    Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment.


    This is an at-will, union represented adjunct position, and may be cancelled based upon the needs of the university.
