Linguistics offers students a comprehensive overview of the history of the field and a strong foundation in the core areas of phonetics, phonology, morphology, and syntax, exposing students to the limits and extent of language structure. A major goal of the BA program is to stimulate student curiosity about language and cultural diversity. Of general interest to our students, but of special interest to those interested in teaching English as a second language, are courses on English grammar and the history of English. Courses are also offered on theories of second language acquisition and language variation and change.

Position Summary

The Department of Linguistics seeks qualified individuals for its Adjunct Instructor pool and welcomes applicants at any time. This posting is for the Fall 2023, Spring 2024 and Summer 2024 semesters. The specific courses involved may vary from semester to semester and openings to teach these courses develop on a periodic basis, depending on department teaching needs.

Courses include (but not limited to): LING – 2060, 2070, 3060, 3070, 3090, 4040, 4070, 4090, 4100, 4130, 5040, 5300, 5080, 5090, 5340, 5400, 5530, 6030, & 6050

Minimum Qualifications

MA in Linguistics or related field; teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD or coursework in Linguistics or a related field towards a PhD preferred. Research in Linguistics andexperience teaching one or more of the anticipated courses is also a plus.
