JOB TITLE: Adjunct Instructor for Education University Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: School of Education

STATUS: Part Time Faculty

Position Summary:

Adjunct University Supervisors are required to hold a current NC Teaching license and must have teaching experience in the K-12 content areas, Mentoring and/or Supervision experience, and/or K-12 Administration experience. In this position, S/he will be required to perform on-site observations for students that are completing the practicum or student teaching requirement for the initial North Carolina Teacher Licensure or provide support for students who are completing the national portfolio assessment, edTPA. Instructor will be required to complete a cycle of observations (pre-conference observation, post conference). S/he should be familiar with NC Teacher Evaluation Instrument and process as well as the National Board for Professional Standards or the edTPA process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The university supervisors coordinate the university and the school resources for maximizing the value of the field experience for the teacher education candidate. The responsibilities of the university supervisor include the following:

  • Ensure visits of clinical student at their assigned school when scheduled jointly between the university supervisor and the clinical teacher.
  • Meet deadlines as established by the Professional Education Department and University.
  • Become aware of the personal, social, and educational qualifications of the candidate.
  • Become acquainted with the philosophy, objectives, organization, and content of the programs of the cooperating schools.
  • Acquaint cooperating school personnel with the philosophy, objectives, organization, and content of the university's teacher education program.
  • Provide pertinent information concerning candidates to the clinical teacher and principal of the cooperating school.
  • Provide the clinical teachers with the necessary orientation regarding their responsibilities in working with a candidate.
  • Participate with university and school personnel in planning the candidate's schedule and program of experience.
  • Observe teacher education candidate in the cooperating schools and hold individual and joint conferences with candidates and clinical teachers to provide feedback on performance. Observations must be spaced appropriately throughout the field experience as outlined by the Professional Education Department.
  • Analyze the performance of the candidate and assist in resolving personal and professional problems of adjustment.
  • Evaluate the candidate within the Tk20 Online System as required by the Professional Education Department.
  • Collect and interpret all evaluative information and develop a final report for individual candidates, including the course grade.
  • Cooperate with university and school personnel in continuous evaluation and revision of the field experience program.
  • Meet all deadlines established for binder evaluations, observations, and submission of grades.
  • Must be familiar with edTPA and be willing to complete training as designated by the department.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.

  • Education/Experience:

  • Master's or Doctorate in Education from regionally accredited university with Licensure in one of the following areas: K-12 content areas, Supervision, and/or K-12 Administration.
  • Teaching Experience in one of the licensure areas indicated above or Administrative Experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and attention to detail is essential.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and the Internet
  • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with faculty, staff, students, university officials and the public.
  • Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
  • Exercise independent judgment in complex and new situations.
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented and willing to work in a changing environment.
