Adjunct Instructors within the College of Graduate and Professional Studies (CGPS) are critical to the success of UNE's online programs. The role of the instructor in CGPS is to facilitate the learning process for online students through timely and effective instruction and communication. Instructors also serve as mentors, sharing their experience to help guide students and ensure they achieve their educational and professional goals. The instructor facilitates the retention of students through creating a positive educational environment, allowing for students to derive the maximum benefits from the program in which they are enrolled. Instructors will receive supervision, collaboration, and guidance from the Graduate Program in Public Health.

The program is 100% online and asynchronous.


Online Instructors are responsible for:

  • Providing expert knowledge in specific public health content area
  • Guiding students through their educational experience while upholding and adhering to the CGPS commitment to student success
  • Providing instruction and mentoring to students about their writing skills
  • Providing timely response to student inquiries, within 24 hours
  • Facilitating class instruction by engaging in the online course portal daily
  • Hosting a minimum of one hour of virtual office hours per week
  • Collaborating with CGPS staff as needed in support of student success
  • Qualifications

    The ideal candidate possesses prior online classroom experience in a higher educational setting, the ability to effectively communicate with students, strong interpersonal skills, and a passion for teaching public health.

  • An earned doctoral degree in public health or a closely related field
  • A minimum of two years public health experience in the field related to the area of instruction
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and an understanding of the social determinants of health
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience in the area of instruction
  • Advanced working knowledge of statistical software for certain courses
  • A desire to motivate and encourage students in their academic and professional work
  • Previous instructional experience with adult students, preferably in an online setting
  • Experience with Brightspace or similar Learning Management Systems
