Department College of Education Classification Adjunct Job Description

The College of Education at the University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) invites applicants for the position of Adjunct Faculty for Literacy courses. Our undergraduate literacy courses are all taught face-to-face on campus. Our MA in Literacy, with Reading Specialist Certification, program courses are all online.

Adjuncts with a master's degree with at least 18 hours of graduate credits in literacy can teach at the undergraduate level. Adjuncts with a doctorate in literacy can teach at the graduate level. Adjuncts with a reading specialist certification can serve as a field supervisor. Duties for a field supervisor include mentoring program candidates during the Practicum experiences through engaging in POP (pre-observation, observation, post-observation) cycles and offering experience-informed feedback and coaching.

Associated duties include, but may not be limited to, completing state-of- Texas required training, utilizing university-required, compliance-related forms and processes, and attending twice-a-year Field Supervisor meetings.

Ideally, we are looking for candidates who can fulfill all three roles. However, applicants who can only fulfill one of those roles are still encouraged to apply.

Required Qualifications


1. All candidates must possess a valid/current state-issued educator's certificate (Texas or other state).

2. All candidates must have a Master's degree in literacy or related field from an accredited university with at least 18 hours in literacy.

3. To teach at the graduate level, candidates must have a doctorate in literacy or a related field from an accredited college or university.

4. To be a field supervisor, candidates must have a reading specialist certification and have at least 3 years of successful experience in the role for which the certification and/or MA candidate is preparing (reading specialist).

Preferred Qualifications


1. Successful experience teaching at the post-secondary level, preferably with assignment to literacy courses.

2. Successful experience teaching online.
