Adjunct Faculty in Landscape Architecture Design`
Apply School of Architecture Faculty Los Angeles, California
The School of Architecture seeks a landscape architect and/or landscape
scholar with design teaching experience to lead a research seminar in the Fall
and design-research studio in the Spring (ARCH 698a/b) on a topic of
critical concern. As the capstone project for final year MLA students, ideal
candidates should have a strong investment and track record (i.e. expertise)
in the proposed area of investigation. Research topics related to urbanism,
climate change (with a particular interest in wildfire), environmental and
spatial justice, etc. should be broad enough for students to pursue their own
passions while guided by an overarching research question. New disciplinary
knowledge and innovative landscape strategies should be the expected outcome,
with a culminating studio publication.
USC reserves the “Adjunct” appointment for faculty teaching less than full-
time at USC, who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career
elsewhere. Adjunct faculty typically teach only one course per year but, in
exceptional cases, may teach one course per semester, if approved by the dean.
Candidates should have at least one professional degree in Landscape
Architecture, preferably a Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) or PhD.
The program is looking for candidates with a strong research agenda,
experience teaching in a design studio and strong academic integrity. Please
include topical proposals for design-research in the cover letter. While
global considerations are encouraged, primary geographies of focus should be
accessible within COVID limits and guidelines.
The position is a year-long appointment with a research seminar in the Fall
(sets up the research question, methodology, geographies and develops
references to support the design-research studio in the Spring) and a design-
studio in the Spring.
