The Department of Communication, Journalism and Media at Rider University
seeks adjunct instructors for the Fall beginning September 2021.
Specific classes with current need include:
COM 210 – News Reporting and Writing
This position is to teach COM 210 – News Reporting and Writing, an
intermediate-level course required for journalism majors and minors.
The course develops skills in hard-news reporting. Employs reporting
assignments to refine information-gathering techniques such as interviewing,
observation, and use of government documents and other contextual materials.
Includes reporting and writing about police news, state and local government,
the criminal justice system, science, business, and sports.
The course meets on Thursdays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
COM 270 – Sports Multimedia Reporting
This position is to teach COM 270 – Sports Multimedia Reporting, an
intermediate-level course required for Sports Media majors and minors.
The course develops skills in hard-news sports reporting, game coverage, and
the production of introductory multimedia and social media sports content.
Employs out-of-the-classroom reporting assignments to refine information
gathering techniques such as interviewing, observation, and use of documents
and other contextual materials. Includes reporting and writing on sports
games, teams, players, coaches, athletic issues/controversies, and the
business of sports.
The course meets on Thursdays from 1:10 to 4:10 p.m.
COM 210 – News Reporting and Writing Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in Journalism
Experience teaching university journalism courses
Extensive professional experience in newspaper reporting and writing
and/or reporting and writing for digital media
COM 270 – Sports Multimedia Reporting Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Communication, Journalism or related subject matter
Extensive professional experience in the sports media – reporting,
writing, announcing and/or reporting and writing for digital media
Position Preferred Qualifications/Experience
COM 210 – News Reporting and Writing Preferred Qualifications :
Extensive professional experience with beat reporting and investigative
COM 270 – Sports Multimedia Reporting Preferred Qualifications:
Extensive professional experience with sports reporting and multimedia
