The Theatre Conservatory of Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts seeks a student-centered teacher to teach Ballroom Dancing to BFA Acting Majors twice per week, Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30pm to 6:00p in the upcoming spring semester of 2022 (January 18th to May 2nd).

Contracts for adjunct faculty are issued on a semester-by-semester basis. Additional employment beyond the upcoming semester may be available to the applicant who demonstrates successful teaching in their first semester at Roosevelt.

Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Teaching ballroom dancing to a class of approximately 17 acting students of varying abilities.
  • Effectively planning and preparing lessons to support student success.
  • Maintaining open communication with department faculty.
  • Upholding principles of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion that are at the core of our mission as an institution of higher education.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Proficiency and proven teaching expertise in either American or International Style ballroom dances.
  • bachelor's degree in dance, theatre or a related area OR equivalent professional experience
  • Candidates should have prior teaching experience at the university level.
  • Candidates should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a culturally diverse range of students.

    Temperature-controlled dance studio with varying levels of noise from students and music. Frequent walking, running, standing, bending and reaching. Physical agility and ability to maintain physical exertion for long periods of time.
