Description of Work Unit
The Department of Communication Studies at Colorado State University currently
teaches more than 450 undergraduate majors, over 30 graduate students seeking
either the MA or the PhD. The graduate program includes 16 M.A. candidates and
20 PhD students. We are in the top 10 departments in the university in numbers
of undergraduate majors and total student credit hours we teach. We employ
nearly 35 faculty members and six support staff. We manage a budget of $4.2
million with widely varying revenue streams. The department houses the
Colorado State University Center for Public Deliberation
(www. cpd.colostate.edu) and hosts the Act Human Rights Film Festival
(www. actfilmest.org). The department is committed to the professional and

The Department of Communication Studies at Colorado State University seeks an
adjunct Assistant Professor who specializes in diversity, race, ethnicity, and
communication to teach courses focused in communication & diversity in the
United States, intercultural communication, and other classes in their area of
expertise. Candidates may employ either social scientific and/or critical
research methods with a preference for social scientific methods. We seek
applicants whose research and scholarly training is grounded in the
Communication Studies discipline. Additionally, successful candidates will
demonstrate expertise and/or engagement in diversity, equity, and access work.
This is a temporary, adjunct Assistant Professor appointment requiring face-
to-face instruction from August 16, 2022 to May 15, 2023. Applicants should

Required Job Qualifications
Demonstrated evidence of or potential for teaching excellence.

Demonstrated evidence of or potential for expertise and/or engagement in diversity, equity, and access work.
ABD or Ph.D. in Communication Studies or closely related field required at time of appointment.
Ability to function collegially on a faculty committed to a liberal arts understanding of Communication Studies.
Ability to mentor and/or integrate students into one's research
