The Department of Theatre and Dance at Central Michigan University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Directing/Acting. The successful candidate will teach in the Department of Theatre and Dance, including classes for the Acting/Directing BFA, BA, BS, and BAA undergraduate programs and advise students on projects and productions specifically focused in the area of Acting/Directing. Applicants should possess a strong background in Acting and Directing, as well as a passion for developing new work, and remaining current in the field with regard to evolving styles and techniques. The candidate should also possess a willingness to work with a collaborative spirit within a team of faculty with varied approaches, and a proven ability to teach beginning and advanced Theatre courses.

Qualifications include significant experience teaching/coaching acting and teaching directing. The successful candidate must have a comprehensive knowledge of both in order to teach confidently several of the following courses: Acting I, Acting II, Acting III (classical repertoire), Voice for the Actor, Movement for the Actor, Audition Techniques, Improvisation, Acting for the Camera, Directing I, Advanced Directing. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to develop courses in the current industry practices within the candidate's specialty, such as, but not limited to: gender or LGBTQ+ studies, African American Theatre, Native American Theatre or other cultural studies, or intimacy direction. The applicant will regularly direct productions for the University Theatre season. Applicants should submit a letter of interest, a CV, a statement of Teaching Philosophy which includes a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion philosophy and experience, and evidence of teaching effectiveness.

The ideal candidate will teach at the undergraduate level, fostering critical study, creative practice, and provocation in the classroom and beyond. Applicants must hold a terminal degree and/or have a significant record of professional accomplishments in the field. We are looking for candidates with strong skills in collaboration and communication, as well as professional networks to help bridge classroom experiences and the profession.

Required Qualifications

· Terminal degree and/or an equivalent record of professional accomplishments in the field

· Evidence of supporting, teaching, and/or mentoring emerging artists in the classroom and the field

· Experience in Directing at the University level or higher

· Evidence of successfully promoting an environment that advances diversity, equity, and inclusion

· Evidence of successful collaboration

· Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

· Experience teaching undergraduate students

· Experience in curriculum development

· A passion for innovative and cross-disciplinary programs
