We are looking for a new Acquisitions Librarian to join our Technical Services team!

Are you ready for the challenge of obtaining electronic and physical books from a range of suppliers for the benefit of our university community?

We're looking for a pro-active librarian to lead a small, dedicated team to help you achieve this. We'll give you support to develop the skills to do this in a friendly working environment with great colleagues.

About the role

The Acquisitions role is a dynamic and varied one, with key responsibilities beyond managing the team and day-to-day acquisitions work. It also includes resolving access issues experienced by customers in connection to e-book usage and access, using relationship management skills when dealing with suppliers and internal stakeholders, helping with the acquisition of reading list material, and providing statistical and other management information to inform Library strategy.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to build networks of internal and external contacts and contribute to discussions, to develop expertise, share problems and find solutions.

This is a full-time (36.5 hours per week) permanent position.

About you

You will be a qualified librarian and will have a CILIP accredited degree level qualification in librarianship/information studies and have:

  • a combination of technical expertise and excellent communication skills
  • the proven ability to supervise a team
  • a strong customer care ethos
  • attention to fine detail
  • have good IT skills, and ideally be highly competent using Excel
  • Additionally, a good understanding of the fast-changing electronic and print books markets is vital.

An interest in how publishers and suppliers set their prices, market their resources, react to their customers, adapt and plan for the future, would make you an ideal candidate for this role. Experience of the Alma library system, including the related Marketplace Rialto and reading List component, Leganto, would also be advantageous.

For more information and informal conversation please contact library-

The Technical Services department of the Library comprises Acquisitions, Cataloguing and Metadata, Copy and Print, Document Delivery, E-Resources (journals and databases), and Periodicals (print journals). Within Technical Services, there are a combination of user-facing and behind-the- scenes roles and key contacts are the academic facing library teams, teaching and research staff, postgraduate and undergraduate students, and suppliers and publishers.
