The School of Arts & Creative Industries, at the University of Bedfordshire, is looking to recruit a part-time (0.6 FTE; equivalent to 3 days a week) Technician to support our Fashion Design area. The successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight of specialist facilities and practical delivery. The role is based at Alexon House, Luton and will involve overseeing and providing technical support for undergraduate and post-graduate activities. The successful candidate will be directly involved in delivering training to users; preparation and demonstration of practical sessions; and participation in outreach activities.
The ideal candidate for this post will be a highly motivated and experienced technician with a wide range of technical expertise in areas of pattern cutting and construction including draping and tailoring techniques; ideally with knowledge of digital pattern cutting software. Experience of working with UG / PG students would be beneficial.
The successful candidate will be expected to update and undertake active research around software for fashion design courses. You will be expected to participate in the general running of the specialist facilities at Alexon House, procurement and health and safety. You will also work closely with students, technical and academic members of staff to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the services and specialist facilities of the School.
The ideal candidate will hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent technical work experience. They will have experience of using procurement systems, such as Agresso, and will be familiar with the use of IT platforms such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite. The successful candidates will possess the ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing and email, and by telephone and will be able to work effectively with different categories and levels of staff and to empathise with people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds.
