  • A minimum of 18 semester hours in accounting from an accredited college or university, plus experience with financial accounting, reporting, and analysis OR 18 hours or more of accounting coursework with qualifying experience as described above, experience may substitute for the required education on a year for year basis

  • Knowledge of professional standards, financial reporting, and accounting theory

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize competing projects
  • High level of problem-solving ability
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and independently with all levels of staff and management
  • Extensive experience with and proficiency in Excel
  • Demonstrated knowledge of automated accounting systems
  • Ability to extract and work with large data sets
  • Reconciliation preparation experience
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with governmental accounting
  • Experience with the preparation of financial statements or supporting schedules
  • Familiarity with NACUBO financial accounting and reporting guidelines
  • Experience processing transactions and reports in the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS)
  • Experience with an ERP system (SAP, Banner, Peoplesoft)
  • One year of experience with financial accounting, reporting, and analysis
  • Job Description

    The Accountant II serves as an interface accountant between the university's integrated general ledger accounting system and the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS). This position will coordinate activity between the systems to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and other authoritative guidance as it applies to governmental accounting and state appropriations. Monitors and reconciles USAS appropriations to ensure data integrity and complete financial reporting. Prepares periodic financial statements, moderately complex account reconciliations, journal entries and various ad-hoc reports and on-demand analysis. Prepares schedules and completes entries for the Annual Financial Report and State Pass-Through Coordination. Evening and weekend hours are necessary during month, fiscal and calendar year-end close-out.

    Job Duties

  • Reconcile monthly appropriation activity and balances between the two systems
  • Identify required adjustments, prepare, and submit journal entries both in the integrated accounting system and USAS
  • Ensure payments and reimbursement requests are processed promptly and correctly in compliance with state statutes and expenditure code assignments
  • Review and analyze general ledger accounts for integrity as well as compliance with applicable principles, standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Assist with the completion of the Annual Financial Report (AFR)
  • Prepare spreadsheets and graphs to facilitate interpretation of data
  • Ensures business process documentation is maintained
  • Work as a team member to facilitate cross-training and perform duties necessary to the effective operation of the department
