POSITION SUMMARY:

The Academic Success Center Coordinator will play a key role in creating and supporting a campus culture that values and rewards excellence in student support. The Coordinator is responsible for managing the operations and activities of Academic Success Center. This position will provide vision and leadership to support student learning on campus and online.

The Coordinator will work closely with instructional and peer tutors, instructional librarians, faculty, and staff, to support student learning and early career engagement. The Coordinator supports efforts to improve student persistence, retention, and completion rates through interactive processes designed to assist students with overcoming barriers to success.

Incumbent must assure that the South University philosophy is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and maintenance of an environment which is conducive to innovation, positive thinking, and expansion.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

  • Hire, train, supervise and schedule tutor coverage for the entire term. Comply with Human Resources on staffing issues (i.e. time sheet management, hiring, and terminations). Monitor tutoring activity (at- risk, special needs, contract, appeal mandates).
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of both supplemental learning activities and co-curricular activities on campus i.e. student tutoring and mentoring programs.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and strategies for identifying at-risk students through Continuing Student Review meetings.
  • Research academic interventions and incorporate national best practices, programs, and activities.
  • Coordinate academic and non-academic resources and referrals for students experiencing academic or personal difficulties.
  • Participate in New Student Orientation, Strategies for Success (UVC1000), College Resource Fairs, and other activities that improve student preparedness for coursework and awareness of the Academic Success Center.
  • Ensure students are aware of, and able to access, the learning management system and all learning resources (physical and digital).
  • Utilize assessment tools and reports to continuously improve the effectiveness of established programs, student learning outcomes and retention to graduation.
  • Develop programs and activities that support successful student outcomes, such as student recruitment efforts, retention to graduation, progression to professional phases of program curriculum, obtaining internships or experiential education, successful re-entry after withdrawing, licensure/professional examination pass rates and employment after graduation.
  • Coordinate strong collaborative relationships with college partners, resource agencies, professional organizations, and other community stakeholders.
  • Provide course proctoring for a maximum of 8 hours per week as assigned.

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Masters in higher education, teaching, instructional design/development or related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in tutoring, in an educational environment
  • Knowledge of faculty development tools, techniques, trends, first year experience principles, online content delivery, professional development and assessment requirements
  • Experience in assessment of learning outcomes in the classroom
  • Documented experience successfully working with at-risk students across the curriculum
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with student and staff populations, academic units
  • Superior organization, administrative, prioritization, and self-motivation skills
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite
  • Strong motivational and management skills
  • Knowledge base of outcomes based curricular design and program development, assessment of learning outcomes, student centered learning, and effective online teaching methodologies
  • Ability to interact effectively as a leader and member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments
  • Ability to listen to customers (e.g. staff, etc.) and to understand and respond positively to their requests
  • Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple priorities
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines
