Description

At the research group of Advanced Thin Film Technology (ATFT), Institute of Materials Science, TU Darmstadt,

2 Research Assistant/Ph.D. Student positions – 75%

are open for a duration of 3 years, each, starting immediately within the project ANGELOTTI funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the ErUM (Universe and Matter Research) framework program.

In this project the research group of ATFT investigates and characterizes the synthesis of superconducting Nb3Sn films. This material has the potential to sustainably increase the energy efficiency in particle accelerators. Within the research group state-of-the-art vacuum facilities and characterization methods are available to solve the challenging demands of thin film synthesis of this material. In case of a successful PhD work, TU Darmstadt actively supports the upscaling of the technology towards company founding. The described project is part of a national co-operation of TU Darmstadt, partner universities and research organizations with a strong interdisciplinary character.

Required qualification:

Excellent candidates with a completed university degree (Master/Diploma) from materials science, physics, mechanical engineering, chemistry or equivalent need to have very good knowledge of solid state physics. Background and practical expertise in vacuum technology and thin film deposition are an added advantage. Additionally, skills in CAD are beneficial. Good communication skills for an interdisciplinary work in an international team are required.

Opportunity for further qualification (doctoral dissertation) is given. The fulfillment of the duties likewise enables the scientific qualifications of the candidate.

The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female employees and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications applicants with a degree of disability of at least 50 or equal will be given preference. Wages and salaries are according to the collective agreements on salary scales, which apply to the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TV-TU Darmstadt).
