Selection methods: The selection methods are the following:

    The evaluation considers two criteria:

  • The candidate's merit and academic and professional background
  • The merit of the proposed work plan
  • Each criterion will have a weight of 50%.

Applications considered admissible will be scored on a scale from 0 to 5 in each of the evaluation criteria, following these sub-criteria:

Criterion A – Candidate's Merit and Academic and Professional Background

Sub-criterion 1. Academic background (simple average of bachelor's and master's classification or the final classification in integrated master) with a weight of 50% in the candidate's merit.

For the evaluation of the Academic background, the points will be attributed according to the table and the following formula:

Final average = 1st cycle's (bachelor) finalclassification + 2nd cycle's (master) finalclassification only final classification of the integrated master.

    Bachelor + Master

    Classification Points

    18 5,0

    17 4,5

    16 4.0

    15 3,5

    14 3,0

    < 14 2,5

Sub-criterion 2. Personal Curriculum, that reflects the scientific and professional background of the candidate, with a weight of 50% in the candidate's merit.

In this criterion, the candidate's curriculum should be evaluated in an integrated manner, from a global viewpoint of the merit of his/her scientific and professional background. The jury should also take into consideration the letters of motivation and recommendation (of mandatory submission), as well as the various aspects of the candidate's curriculum that should reveal a relevant scientific and professional background, mainly in the scientific areas of the doctorate's degree. In particular, the jury must evaluate the quality of the document submitted by the candidate as the most relevant and illustrative of his/her scientific/professional background along with the explanation of its relevance presented in the letter of motivation submitted by the candidate.

The classification of this sub-criterion should reflect an overall view of the candidate's personal curriculum (minimum: 1,0; maximum: 5,0)

The final classification of the criterion A – candidate's merit and academic and professional background – will be given by the weighted average of sub- criterion 1 and 2.

    Criterion B – Work Plan's Merit

For the evaluation of the work plan, the jury should perform a well-founded qualitative evaluation, based on the assessment of the elements that should appear in the work plan, on the scientific quality of the proposal, on the quality of its writing and on its viability.

The classification of this criterion should reflect an overall view of this qualitative evaluation (minimum: 1,0; maximum: 5,0)

For the purposes of the decision on the granting of the PhD Research Studentship, candidates will be ranked according to the weighted average of the two criteria translated by the following formula:

    Final Classification = (Criterion A Classification × 0,5)+(Criterion B Classification × 0,5)

For tie-breaking purposes, the ranking of candidates will be based on the classifications given to each of the evaluation criteria in the following order of precedence: criterion A sub-criterion 1, criterion A sub-criterion 2, criterion B.

    Members of the selection Jury:

Joanne Paisana, Assistant Professor, University of Minho (President of the Jury)

Mário Matos, Assistant Professor, University of Minho (Effective member)

Manuel Gama, Full Professor, University of Minho (Effective member)

    Substitutes:

Elisa Lessa, Associate Professor, University of Minho (Substitute member)

Francesca Rayner, Assistant Professor, University of Minho (Substitute member)

Results disclosure: The final evaluation results will be published, as an alphabetically sorted list, in a public readily accessible place within the School of Arts and Humanities. The chosen candidate will be notified of the results by e-mail.

Application deadline and formalization of the applications:

The Call is open from 9:30 am August 17th to 4:30 pm (Lisbon time) August 30th, 2021.

The applications and supporting documents must be submitted, obligatorily, by email to the address dircehum@elach.uminho.pt.

Each candidate may submit only one application, under penalty of cancellation of all submitted applications.

The provision of false declarations or the carrying out of acts of plagiarism by the candidates leads to the exclusion of the application, without prejudice to the adoption of other sanction measures.
