Offer Description

Terms of employment Selected candidate will be employed as full-time researcher (pol. adiunkt). The duration of employment is two years. The starting date is October 1, 2024 (to be agreed with the selected candidate). The offered salary is around 8 800 PLN per month pre-tax. The position comes with no teaching obligations and with a travel budget. Selected candidate will work on the application of machine learning to low-dimensional topology and quantum field theory.

Description of the project The project lies at the intersection of computer science, mathematics, and physics, focusing on deep learning, knots, 3-manifolds, quivers, and string theory. Research questions will include the following:

Can algorithm learn to generate a quiver for a given knot?

What distinguishes symmetric quivers that correspond to knots from the rest?

What is the relationship between quivers and various kinds of knot invariants?

Requirements

 PhD degree in computer science/physics/mathematics or related field at the moment of employment (the degree can be obtained no earlier than 7 years before the year of employment in project)  Experience in machine learning is required  Experience in quantum topology will be an advantage  Experience in applications of machine learning in mathematics or physics will be an advantage

The competition may be entered by persons who meet the conditions set out in art. 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018 (Journal of Laws of 2022, item 574, as amended). The applications will be evaluated by a selection committee appointed by the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, University of Warsaw. The committee may invite candidate for an interview. The results are expected to be be sent to candidates electronically till January 31, 2024. The full recruitment process is described in the Statute of the University of Warsaw and the recommendation by the selection committee is a basis for its subsequent stages.
